There is no doubt that the GDSF is a most magnificent event. For the last 2 years it has had to be cancelled, as were many other events, because of Covid. I cant explain the disappointment I felt last year when it had to be cancelled for the second year running but  it is back this year- UPEEE and it is with great excitement that I look forward to being there again from the 25th to 29th August 2022.

The GDSF is held over 5 days and if you are able to I would advise attending for as many of those days as possible- there is sooo much to see. Of course there are a host of Steam Traction Engines to be seen trundling around the Heavy Haulage Arena with the Showman Engines taking pride of place on Saturday Night, all resplendently lit up to create a spectacular display. The sounds, the smells of the engines - wonderful. However, there isn't just steam to see, there are vintage and classic tractors-loads of them. The first year I attended I took photographs of the tractors going round the ring and it took 1hr40 mins for all the tractors the get round. Don't miss this spectacle. Vintage cars are on show, so many last time that they were divided into 2 groups with group A going round the ring one day and group B the next day. There is always a magnificent display of vintage commercial vehicles, and horses-have I mentioned the horses yet? Horse ploughing, cultivating, carriage driving etc are all to be seen. All this, many other displays and so much more  so come and enjoy it all. In the next few pages I have tried to give you a flavour of some of the great sights to be seen at dorset. Don't miss it!
